Golite Selkirk Jacket
Danny is a backcountry explorer that loves steep and deep. Hikes are a welcome challenge as fresh powder is the perfect reward.
It's the lightest jacket we've ever pulled on.
GoLite’s Selkirk Ultralite 800 Fill Down Jacket is a layering lover’s fantasy – but better. The GoLite scientists are clearly skiers and riders, because the lightweight combination of Ultralight Pertex Quantum GL fabric and 800 fill power goose down could only be cooked up in a laboratory full of powder hounds. Our testers fell in love with the weight and warmth of the Selkirk. “The alpine fit is perfect for layering,” said one tester. “It lays snug to the body.” The jacket is ideal for shorter endurance activities if worn as an outer layer, but the jacket truly shines as an additional layer to throw in your pack (it packs down to the size of a softball) during high-output activities like backcountry touring so you can enjoy its warmth when your heart rate slows down. The piece doesn’t breath as well as some hybrid designs that have paneling around high-perspiration areas, but the warmth to weight ratio could not be better. While the scientists responsible for the Selkirk are surely scribbling away algorithms for their next foray into outerwear, our Active Junky testers have written some formulas of their own. “Base layer + Selkirk + shell = a match made in heaven.” Whether you are looking for a lightweight outer layer or a stow-and-throw jacket, the Selkirk is a functional and versatile addition to the arsenal of any serious outdoor enthusiast.
