I was introduced to these while mountain biking in Austin, TX in late August one year. I had 'bonked' - weak, nauseous, pale. My buddy pulled out one of these and called it a 'Jesus Pack' because it will save you out on the trail. Ten minutes later I was back in business. Two of these now live in my bike seat pack and two more live in my Camelbak. As far as taste, just get a flavor you like. I have yet to be disappointed. It is more of a consistency thing for me. It is like eating toothpaste. Also, you NEED to take this stuff with lotsa water. They also recommend to take one every 45 minutes of exercise. That will be more of an individual judgement call for each user.
