It's Always Winter Somewhere In The World

Ski resorts are closing up shop for the summer.  Golf courses are tidying up their greens and readying the tee boxes.  Mountain bike trails are snow-free and open to the public. City parks are teeming with volleyball nets and dogs playing fetch. Are you still thinking about your skis?  Now is the time to start planning your summer trip to South America to catch some mid-summer powder.  The Active Junky crew heads to South America every summer for our annual winter gear guide test, and we want you to meet us there.  Check out two spots we hit last year: Portillo Ski Resort and Ski Arpa.

Portillo Ski Resort - Chile

From Active Junky:

"Portillo is a unique and stunningly beautiful resort hidden high in the Andes Mountains on the border between Chile and Argentina. The 16,000-foot peaks loom much higher than the North American Rockies and offer some of the most outrageous skiing in South America. The resort lies at the base of a valley beside the Laguna del Inca, a turquoise alpine lake said to be haunted by the spirit of an Incan princess."

Ski Arpa - Chile

From Active Junky:

"If you want to skip the crowds and rip into some of the purest bottomless powder in Chile, you'll want to check out Ski Arpa. The tiny resort consists of the founder Toni Sponar, his son Anton and two guides who will personally take you over 4,000 acres of untracked terrain and adrenaline-pumping steeps in two Pisten Bully Snowcats."
