No longer flying down the soccer pitch to make news in the horizontal world of sport, adidas Outdoors has set its sights above. With a powerful roster of emerging climbers in all disciplines, Active Junky caught up with adidas Outdoors' U.S. Managing Director, Greg Thomsen. Our timing was ideal as one of their athletes, Sasha Digiulian, recently became an Eiger icon in Switzerland.

Greg Thomsen: Our macro goal is to help improve outdoor athletes performance. Input from our athletes on product development and creation helps us refine and target product and style improvements that will ultimately help improve athlete performance. We also focus our marketing on the next generation of outdoor athletes and our team represents that generation better than any other. They bring life and enthusiasm to the company along with pure authenticity and credibility to the market. On a more personal level, we enjoy mentoring these highly talented individuals. I have made my career in the outdoor market and I really enjoy giving back to the next generation of individuals that will be shaping the market's future.

GT: All of them! But in particular watch Sasha DiGiulian as she moves farther from indoor competition to the hardest alpine routes in the world. She is on the Eiger right now with Carlo Traversi. They are trying the hardest rock route on the Eiger. It would also be the first woman to do the route, but even if she doesn't send it this time it is really important that she is pushing the boundaries. As Sasha says, failure is not trying.
GT: So many. We are very excited about our new trail running shoes. The Terrex Boost and the Terrex Agravic, both are amazing products.
The Terrex Scope Mid is a fantastic all around mountain boot with GORE-TEX and Stealth rubber soles, it's a mountaineers dream come true.
