As Active Junky celebrates the National Park Service’s 100th birthday, the excitement of a new park is a great way to start the next century. On the NPS’s centennial, President Obama announced land donated by Elliotsville Plantation Inc. along with the entire 87,000-acre Katahdin Woods and Water National Monument will become Maine’s second national park (alongside Acadia) and the nation’s 59th park. In addition to the land, Elliotsville Plantation donated funds to help the park become operational, including adding visitor centers and other facilities.
