Most mountain bikers avoid sand at all costs – it’s a pain in the saddle on the way up and a deathtrap on the way down. Andi Tillman, on the other hand, seeks it out.
Tillman and his buddies shred sand in Namibia, hiking up shifting dunes and descending where likely no bike has been before. These lines are more akin to snowboarding than mountain biking, as knobby tires kick up rooster tails of sand and cut arcing turns down dunes.
Forget a camel, just grab your bike start pedaling. Don’t forget that chain lube, though!
