Jimmy Chin’s Animated Avalanche

Definitely a different take on an avalanche awareness video. Vice Sports interviewed Jimmy Chin on the harrowing experience of getting buried in an avalanche and then animated the story. The cartoon is ethereal and spooky, offering a visual interpretation of Chin’s narration.

Weightlessness, helplessness, fear of death, fighting for life—the cartoon actually does a spectacular job of reconstructing the intangible emotions and feelings that went through Chin’s mind that fateful day in the Tetons. 

If nothing else, this is artfully told tale of survival is a warning: avalanches are a constant and real danger to those skiers and riders who step out into the backcountry.
