Teahupo’o has never fired like this before. The Tahitian break, infamous for its shallow reef and heavy barrels, played center stage to the pyrotechnical theatrics of one of surfing’s most ludicrous actors: Jamie O’Brien.
JOB had a thermal suit and a hoodie under his wetsuit. They sprayed him with a flammable compound and lit him on fire. Then, he dropped in at Teahupo’o, a wave in contention for the “Heaviest Wave in the World” accolade (nominated by legendary big wave surfer Laird Hamilton, among others).
“I caught the best wave of my life today,” said JOB after the fact in an interview with Redbull. “It was a dream wave, and I was on fire. It was the biggest adrenaline rush of my life.”
We believe him.
