Talk about surviving in Madagascar and what comes to mind? A machete, flare, flint, a water purification system if you’re lucky, maybe a lean-to or some sort of makeshift shelter. Not so for Redbull surfers.
Their 4 steps to survival?
They cruise these wild seas on an insane twin hull boat, stocked with 50 sticks of butter, fishing rods and a sun-weathered captain.
The boys brought enough surfboards to stock a small surf shop. Each surfer brings a 3-board quiver: one shorter board for small, playful waves, one “all-around” quiver-killer and one board that can handle tubes and bigger surf (6+ feet).
When surfing the “sharkiest place in the world,” the crew always keeps one person in the water with an E-Shark Force device strapped around their ankle. Belted to the leash, this little life-saving gadget emits electric pulses that have been shown to dissuade sharks from even coming close to the wearer—let alone taking a bite. Though all of this young company's products are currently out of stock, we look forward to checking out more gear from 808esharkforce in the future.
It’s not just sharks the crew is worried about in Madagascar. With venomous spiders dangling, mosquitos buzzing and crocodiles lurking in the jungle, the surfers rely on a Tentsile Tree Tent to sleep safely. Being suspended a few feet above the ground, and falling asleep to the sound of the surf sounds more like a vacation than a “survival” scenario.
