Usually, “underground” refers to a sport’s clandestine nature. Underground curling clubs. Underground wheelbarrow racing. Something of the like. This time, “underground” is literal, as Marcelo Gutierrez and Esteban Zuluaga dip below the earth’s surface, whipping their mountain bikes through a Colombian salt mine.
The fast and flowy downhill course of Zipaquirá, Colombia, had a previously unexplored extension. Marcelo and Esteban banked toward the detour, rolling off course and heading into the depths of a salt mine. Railing wall rides on the sloping sides of the tunnels and dropping down stairsets at speed, these riders take mountain biking to new depths.
