As the National Parks Service rings in its Centennial, Yosemite National Park also has reason to celebrate: the addition of 400 acres to its expansive wilderness, an Active Junky favorite. Previously used for logging and grazing, the land was purchased by the conservation group Trust for Public Land and donated to the national park to preserve and protect the habitat and wildlife, such as the endangered great grey owl. The previous owner sold to the Trust rather than private owners to ensure visitors could access the land without paying additional costs. Learn more about the donation here.
