Keen’s no stranger to the uncharted corners of the world. Over the past 24 months, Active Junky put two lace-and-go Keen hiking boots through countless miles in several continents. Needless to say, we’re big fans.
Keen Durand Mid WP Hiking Boots - Men's
This boot screams “get up and go” despite the beefed-up build that repels geologic anomalies (rocks) and reptilian encounters (snakes). Testers found the boot suitable for day hikes as well as backpacking trips— the Durand’s stability, cushioning and waterproofing came into play across varied terrain.
A noteworthy lacing system tops dual-density footbeds. The integrated poly heel cushions personalize fit while dampening the effect of jarring topography. As with other Keen models, the Durand’s materials and construction push past competitive models. A padded tongue and resilient toe rand complete the package.
Best For: Aggressive objectives, freedom to roam
Keen Liberty Ridge WP Hiking Boot
Seasoned Appalachian Trail and PCT hikers salivate upon their first wearing of this sturdy model. That’s because the waterproof, full-grain leather uppers suggest that you can trust this boot in grueling conditions. Not content simply to replicate classic hiker aesthetics, there’s plenty of tech inside Liberty Ridge.
Keen Dry waterproof breathable membranes provide unrelenting water and weather protection. Removable, dual-density footbeds stop fatigue in its tracks over rolling and extreme terrain. Full-length stability shanks counter forces encountered in repeated traverses as outsoles take a “best of” approach to materials and tread pattern. This boot, while long on value, never came up short.
Best For: Dedicated hikers, long-distance travel with moderate loads
