Spacecraft Collective Headwear: Art For Astronauts

If there were a modern art museum on Mars, Spacecraft Collective threads would be on display. The out-of-the-box company is equal parts astronomic and artistic, making it a favorite of city-dwelling spacemen.

While inspired by a powder-shrouded snowcat in Summit at Snoqualmie’s infamous Alpental backcountry terrain (peep the logo), Seattle’s Spacecraft has since launched a full-fledged line of street-ready apparel and accessories. Forged by artists and motivated by the mountains, these hats and beanies are manufactured for the contemporary cosmonaut.

Spacecraft 6-Panel: From A Far-Out Galaxy

Spacecraft 6-Panel

Adding a sixth panel to the now-classic “5-panel” design, Spacecraft’s 6-panel looks more like a riff on old-school snapbacks. We got our hands on the black version with a white embroidered “Spacecraft” patch, but the 6-Panel is also available in a denim version. Reading “Salted Winds and Snowy Pines,” a black patch is stitched onto a gray front panel that pops from the denim cap. Testers liked the stiffness of the material, as the cap retained shape even after being crammed in a backpack before hitting the slopes.

Dock Beanie: Seaside Style For Landlubbers

Spacecraft Dock Beanie

Finding a great beanie for under-$20 just became doable. The “Dock” is aptly named; the folded beanie harkens back to salty seadogs hanging dockside, hauling crates of cargo with hand-rolled cigarettes tucked beneath woolen knits. Spacecraft’s acrylic version comes in a variety of colors, each appropriate for intergalactic adventure, be it on the shoreline or at the base of a snow-capped peak.

Stormy Kromer Ikat Hat: Heritage Headwear

Active Junky has long since pledged allegiance to the woolen flag of Stormy Kromer. Spacecraft collaborated with the 112-year-old headwear mainstay on two styles: a Nor’easter-worthy plaid and gray combo, and a unique tan model embellished with Ikat, a traditional Balinese fabric. Both looks are out-of-this-world, whether you’re heading to the moon or simply tilting your head back to get a glimpse of it.

Mason Beanie: Anti-Gravitational Silkiness

While the look of the Mason is noteworthy, it’s the feel that will make your jaw drop. The thick, silky yarn is like a brand-new down sleeping bag for your dome. Testers had a hard time letting go of the smooth knit, but they did long enough to pass it around and say, “You’ve got to feel this. Am I right?” A classic Spacecraft leather patch completes the interplanetary look.

Rainier Pom Beanie: The Seattleite Satellite

Stripes and poms don’t always work well together, but Spacecraft merges the two with ease. Bold and fun, the Rainier Pom is an ode to Seattle’s lofty mountain sentinel. The Rainier comes in a few different colorways, each complete with a playful purple and blue patch (one reminiscent of a much bigger brand’s classic emblem).
